In our
2007/08 Strategic Planning Retreat, SECME
staff and Board of Directors determined to
develop programmatic strategic partnerships
with other organizations who shared a like
mission and vision. As an initial step toward
that goal, SECME co-sponsored a Scholar’s
Recognition at the 2008 National Conference
of the National Association of Multi-Cultural
Engineering Program Advocates (NAMEPA).
NAMEPA’s
mission is: To provide quality
services, information, and tools for our stakeholders
to produce a diverse pool of engineers and
scientists, and achieve equity and parity
in the nation's workforce.
On January
25, 2008, 15 exceptional high school juniors
and seniors were recognized as the inaugural
group of SECME-NAMEPA Scholars. Each boasted
an ACT score of 25 or higher or an SAT score
(Critical Reading & Math scores only)
of at least 1200, in addition to numerous
other accomplishments.
The
scholars were honored at the luncheon and
introduced to more than 150 NAMEPA Conference
University and Industry participants and guests.
Many students left with scholarship offers
and new options for their postsecondary careers.
SECME
is proud to partner with NAMEPA in this new
strategy toward equity and excellence in STEM
education!
