Director, Early College High School Initiative
Michele
Williams joined SECME in July, 2002. Currently, she serves as
Interim Executive Director and as Director of the Early College
High School Initiative.
As Interim Executive Director, Michele leads the SECME National
Office, located on the campus of Georgia Institute of Technology.
The National Headquarters Office serves as the management and
coordinating unit for an alliance of 110 school districts, 45
member engineering universities and more than 70 corporate and
government partners nationwide. She is also responsible for overseeing
a 5-year high school reform and community engagement project funded
by the Bill and Melinda Gates and W.K. Kellogg Foundations.
Mrs. Williams comes to SECME with a background in marketing and
communications, professional development and community relations,
having worked in management for American Express, and later as
an independent consultant, serving clients including Gwinnett
County Police, America Online, Gwinnett County Public Schools,
Fred Pryor Seminars and others. She has assisted in the development
community leadership, diversity and HR development programs in
public and private sector. Her work with youth prior to joining
SECME includes the development of life skills workshops on integrity
and mentoring, career awareness programs and communications and
public speaking programs for youth and teens.
In her community, Mrs. Williams has been instrumental in the
creation of local community associations and a community senior
center. She has served on the Board of Health and Human Services
for her county, and is an active member and Board member of New
Bethel A.M.E. Church, where she also volunteers as an interpreter
for the hearing impaired.
A native New Yorker, Mrs. Williams earned degrees in English
and journalism from Syracuse University. She relocated to Georgia
in 1990 with her husband, Jon and daughter, Kristen.
